Danish
sailor Jesper Radich Johansen joined Alinghi's Jochen
Schümann (92, 93, 96 and 97), Victory Challenge's Jesper Bank
(94 & 98), the german Markus Wieser (95 & 96) and
the Swede Björn Hansen (2000) as winner in the 10 year history
of the Berlin Match Race, an ISAF grade 2 event, hosted by
the Berliner Yacht Club Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee.
Four tight races in the final of the
event saw Danish sailor defeating
the Illbrück Challenge Match Racing Team, leaded by Morten
Henriksen, three matches to one
in the best-of-five match.
Third place went to Polish Karol
Jablonski, who defeated the German
Markus Wieser two matches to zero in
the best-of-three petit-final.

Morten Henriksen (Illbrück
Challenge) and Markus Wieser led their German crews into the
semi-finals of the Berlin Match Race this afternoon. Joining
the German couple were Karol Jablonski (Polska 1 Challenge
2006) and the Danish Swedish Match Tour regulars, Jesper Radich
Johansen.
Jesper Radich Johansen and Morten Henriksen led the way, registering
4 wins, to sit a top the Group standings as semifinal action
tomorrow. With only 2 wins for 3 losses, Karol Jablonski and
Markus Wieser progressing by virtue of a countback over Staffan
Lindberg of Sweden. The other eliminated skipper is François
Brenac with one win and for losses.

Like in Constance, the fleet
was divided into two groups ("A" & "B")
based on the ISAF ranking list as of October 1. Each group
will sail a single round robin where each skipper sails each
other skipper once. The three highest scoring skippers from
each group shall qualify for a Second Round Robin
In Group A action, local favorite Markus Wieser, the danish
Jesper Radich Johansen and the Illbrück Challenge's Morten
Henriksen reached the second Round Robin. Wieser posted a
record of five wins and zero defeats. Just behind were Jesper
Radich Johansen (four wins against one defeat) and Henriksen
(three wins and two defeats).
In Group B, Karol Jablonski (Polska 1 Challenge 2006) led
the way, registering five wins, to sit atop the Group standings
as second RR action looms on Saturday. Also advancing from
Group B is the Swedish Staffan Lindberg and the French (5
wins), Francois Brenac, each with 3 wins and two defeats.
Skippers eliminated from the competition include Swede Björn
Hansen, Defending champion ranked 10th by ISAF, and French
Philippe Presti of Le Défi 2003 French Challenge. Joining
them on-the-outside-looking-in are the germans Andreas Bock,
Carsten Kemmling and Nadine Stegenwalner and the other swede
Hans Wallen.
