| The young australian skipper,
James Spithill, who now sails for OneWorld Challenge, held
on to defeat Paolo Cian of Vincenzo Onorato's Italian Mascalzone
Latino Challenge at the second BluRimini Match Race (an ISAF
Grade 2 regatta) in Italy.
The helmsman of the Onorato Team started well and held a 1-0
advantage over Spithill – who had a penality - but he was
not able to repeat this for the next two races. In the fourth
match Spithill’s BLUSail 24’ had a broken rudder. His victory
stopped for a while and therefore the results came back to
level at 2-2.
The fifth and last race was decisive. Spithill had immediately
taken advantage of Cian - who received a penality (starting
greatly). This meant that there was little chance for Cian
and his crew who, because of his penality, could not overtake
Spithill.
The strong showing will be a timely confidence boost as the
Spithill team progress to Lake Garda next week to defend the
Pedrini Cento Cup Grade 1 title claimed last year.
In the petit-finals, Kelvin Harrap of OneWorld Challenge defeated
Murray Jones (Alinghi Swiss Challenge), his former roomate
in the Team NZ two matches to one. Harrap dropped the first
match of the first-to-two-wins, but came back to win two straight
matches and claim third place. Because of a collision Harrap
was able to give a penalty to Jones in the first race. In
the second race thanks to good wind conditions Harrap again
took the advantage.

and Kelvin Harrap (OneWorld Challenge), two races to zero.
After a slow start to the (European) summer match race season,
James Spithill and his crew representing the Seattle USA based

Italy.

| Murray Jones of the Alinghi Swiss
America's Challenge head the leaderboard at the end of the
first day of the BluRimini Match Race in Italy. The new zealander
posted records of five wins and one loss (5-1) in round robin
action.
Sharing second place are two other Cup skippers, Australian
James Spithill (who now sails for American's OneWorld Challenge)
and Italian's Paolo Cian (from the Mascalzone Latino), both
with four wins and one defeat.
Also on four wins, but with two losses is Francisco de Angelis,
representing the Prada America's Cup Challenge.
With the round robin elimination series getting close to the
half-way stage, the battle to grab the four semi-final places
looks likely to get meaner and tougher in the second half.
LEADERBORD (Skipper / Wins / Losses)
1. Murray Jones 5/1
2. James Spithill 4/1
2. Paolo Cian 4/1
4. Francesco De Angelis 4/2

Busy summer for the America's Cupper. Fresh from finishing
the Lake Constance in Germany last week-end, they will contest
the second BluRimini Match Race (an ISAF Grade 2 regatta)
in Italy, from Wednesday to Saturday this week.
After being announced by the organizers, the "Auckland
revenge" beetween Coutts and De Angelis was finally
cancelled. The former TNZ , who now sails for Swiss's Alinghi
Challenge, have finally given up defending its 2000 title
(last year, he won the first Blurimini against James Spithill).
Nevertheless, besides the skipper/timoniere of Prada, Francisco
de Angelis, there are six America's Cup crews amongst the
teams that will contest the Cup.
The Alinghi Swiss syndicate will be represented by another
former Team NZ, Murray Jones. The 2000 Defender will come
in force because Kelvin Harrap, who now sails for American's
OneWorld Challenge. Harrap will be present with Morgan Larson,
Greg Monk and Ed Snythe.
James Spithill, from Sydney, made a name for himself at
the last Cup in Auckland, where he was the youngest skipper,
and has now joined OneWorld team. He comes with Ben Durham,
Joey Newton and Andy Fethers.
The new french challenger of the next America’s Cup is going
to Rimini. Sebastien Col, possible steerman of the next
Defi français, comes with Loic Goepfert, Fabrice
Blondel and Frederic Guilmin
Nicola Celon, with much of his experience coming from the
Soling class (in which he competed at last year's Olympics
on Sydney Harbour) flies the flag for the second italian
Challenge, Mascalzone Latino, on the Adriatic sea this week
(crew : Antar Vigna, Pierluigi Fornelli and Federico Michetti).
The danish Jesper Feldt Radich and Lars Nordbjærg , regulars
on the Tour, will also be skippering entries. Rounding out
the list of BluRimini competitors are Italians Matteo Simoncelli
and Fabio Mazzoni.
After a practice day, the action starts tomorrow (7st),
the series featuring a round robin, in which all the skippers
sail against each of the others. The first 4 skippers will
enter the semi-finals followed by final on saturday.
