Day 3
|
Conditions for the final two
races of the IC 45 regatta were slightly overcast with a
northerly breeze increasing from 10-18 knots. The first
race of the day saw Barlo Plastics get a good start, but
an open propeller impaired her performance. The race was
won by Babbalaas with La Casera second and Barlo Plastics
third. SEB was over early at the start and by not returning
to restart was duly disqualified.
In the second race the wind had increased to 18 knots and
the racing between the remaining 5 boats (Faster K-Yote
II did not race today) was very close. SEB was first, La
Casera second and Babbalaas third. Barlo Plastics finished
fourth but her consistent results on Friday and Saturday
meant that she did not have to worry about today's results.
The final regatta of the Clean Marine Winter Series 2001
is scheduled in Palma on 9th - 11th March 2001.

Day 2
|
Barlo Plastics IC 45 remain
the boat to beat following the second day of the second
regatta in the Clean Marine IC 45 Winter Series 2001, organized
by the Club de Mar Mallorca. Another four races today took
place in fresh sunny conditions with 12-20 knots of breeze
to the North East.
SEB triumphed in today's first race whilst Babbalaas outsmarted
Barlo Plastics on the last run to take second place ahead
of Adrian Stead and the crew aboard Barlo Plastics. A convincing
win in race 2 saw Barlo finish ten boat-lengths ahead of
the Spanish boat La Casera and the young Nicolas Charbonnier
on Faster K-Yote II finished third.
Race 2's finishing line-up was repeated in today's race
3 (7 of the Series) as Barlo Plastics managed to just sneak
ahead when the fleet all overlapped going round the leeward
mark, through the leeward gate at the end of lap one. Barlo
Plastics secured a cracking start to today's final race
at the left-hand end, but Babbalaas got a good right shift
and both yachts rounded the top mark overlapped. Barlo Plastics
then sat in a hole, to round the next top mark in 5th place,
however with four boats at the finishing line Barlo Plastics
took third place behind first placed British entry Babbalaas
and Faster K-Yote II in second.

Day 1
|
The opening day of the second
regatta in the Clean Marine IC 45 Winter Series 2001, organized
by the Club de Mar Mallorca, saw Barlo Plastics IC 45 continue
on form with Adrian Stead (tactician) and his crew securing
an impressive run of results over 4 races. In a break from
his training schedule with the OneWorld America's Cup syndicate,
Ben Ainslie took the place of Ian Walker, who successfully
guest-helmed Barlo Plastics last month to a regatta win
at the first event of the three regatta Series.
Racing commenced today in 15 knots of breeze, however the
squally conditions on the waters of the Bay of Palma de
Mallorca saw the breeze shift between 8 to 24 knots.
The first race was lead by Faster K-Yote 2 from the beginning
who chose the left hand side. The red boat misjudged the
layline during the second windward leg offering her competitors
the chance of a come back. Barlo Plastics managed to overtake
on the finishing line. Babbalaas was third..
In the second race Investor made the best start and the
best tactical choice. She lead the race from the beginning
to end in stronger strong wind (gusts up to 25 knots). Behind
her, Barlo Plastics sailed well again and rounded the first
mark second with Faster K-Yote 2 third. Babbalaas came back
well thanks to a radical left hand side tactical choice
and managed to take third place on the final run.
The third race was started with heavy air again. An incident
occurred between Investor and Faster K-Yote 2 while the
two boats were very to Babbalaas. Babbalaas was penalised
and had to do a 360° turn. By the top mark, Barlo Plastics
was clear leader. The Spanish boat helmed by the Prince
of Spain was second at the topmark followed by the other
spanish boat La Casera. While all this was going on Barlo
Plastics sailed away to win her second race ahead of La
Casera and Faster K-Yote 2.
The committee was courageous enough to start the fourth
race despite the lack of wind. The course was short with
only one upwind and downwind leg. Barlo Plastics and Babbalaas
but despite a premature start La Casera crossed ahead of
them both on the first beat. The finish was in the same
order..
Barlo Plastics are in 1st place overall after today's 4
races on 6 points and racing continues tomorrow, Saturday
17th February and Sunday 18th. The final regatta of the
Clean Marine Winter Series 2001 is scheduled in Palma next
month before the fleet moves north in preparation for the
Admiral's Cup .
