Final Day
|
Jesper Radich takes the title
in a clear score of 2 / 0. Morten Henriksen not confortable
enough in this light air had to conceed. Both starts were
very even, but Jesper Radich seemed to gain the speed a
little faster than the german team, leading from first tack
to the finishing line in both matches.
After 3 months touring match race regattas in New Zealand,
Australia and Denmark, Francesco and his Prada team were
in a hurry to catch their plane back to Italy, and defeated
Jesper Feldt in a clean 2 / 0. In the second start Jesper
Feldt started out with good control of the seasoned Americas
Cup team, put in the light air the Italians eluded the young
dane and inflicted a penalty on him. In the first Match
, Prada, even though in difficulty at the first top rounding
due to a wrong tactic choice after a split-start, manages
to roll over Jesper after a nice jybe-set, keeps the lead
to defeat Jesper Feldt.

Day 1
|
Perfect weather conditions
though rather cold (about 3 to 5 deg Celsius), a northern
wind at 7 to 9 m/s, lovely sunshine and world class sailing
sum up the first part of the day. Group A finished their
races on time and group B started right on schedule. The
extreme tight races in group A resulted in seven penalties
in the first two flights.
Jesper Radich, highest ranked claims a 4 straights wins
loosing to the French team of Philippe Presti experimenting
the 37ft for the very first time. Morten Henriksen, with
the Illbruck America’s Cup syndicate will end 2nd also with
4 wins. Jesper Feldt finally finds the right gear to claim
the 3rd spot just in front of Francesco de Angelis from
the Prada America’s Cup syndicate also discovering this
boat and Denmark for the first time.
The top 4 of the board will then proceed to the quarter-finals
leaving Henrik Jensen and Philippe Presti with a bitter
taste to play for the 9th to 12th place As well, new rules
applied for the first time which made the work of the judges
even more difficult.
The weather conditions in the group B were not as fair as
for the previous one forcing the race committee to postpone
several times the start procedure due to 90 deg shifts and
variations of wind speed. After 3 flights sailed with the
small headsails, group B is required to use the genoa. Jes
Gram Hansen defeats without difficulties Troels Lykke, Lars
Nordbjerg and Johnie Berntsson in his first 3 matches.
