Peter Holmberg of the Oracle Racing Team America's Cup Challenge defeated Italian National Champion Paolo Cian of the Mascalzone Latino Challenge for the 2003 America's Cup in the final of the 13th Pedrini Cento Cup Grade 1 Match Race event at Lake Garda, Italy.

Holmberg swept past Cian three races to zero in the first-to-three- final. James Spithill of the OneWorld Challenge defeated Poland's Karol Jablonski of the MK Café Sailing Team 2-1 in the petit final to claim third place.

After an action packed day on Lake Garda, two America's Cup teams have made the cut to the in the best of fivefinal of the Pedrini Centomiglia Cup.

First to secure a place in the finals was Peter Holmberg (OneWorld Challenge) after outdueled Karol Jablonski two races to zero.

The only pairing needing three matches to determine a victor featured Paolo Cian of Mascalzone Latino against James Spithill of OneWorld Challenge. The italian crew dropped the first match to the american team before rallying to take two in a row, winning the deciding match and denying OneWorld a chance to send two teams on to the final.


Earlier in the day all the second stage beetween the six were completed. Skippers eliminated from the semi-finales finals include French Philippe Presti (Le Défi Français) and Kelvin Harrap (OneWorld Challenge).

  Like in Split and Constance, Skippers was divided into two groups ("A" & "B"). In Each group all skippers will sail a Round Robin where each skipper sails each other skipper once. The six highest scoring skippers shall qualify for the next stage.

On the second day of Pedrini, the round robin series for group "B" was completed. James Spithill (OneWorld Challenge), Peter Holmberg (Stars & Stripes), Philippe Presti (le Défi Français) and Morten Henriksen (Illbruck Challenge) reached the quarterfinal. Spithill had 5 wins and no defeat. Holmberg and Presti has 3 wins while Henriksen has 2 wins. For Spithill, this continues his winning form from the Blurimini Match Race event, Italy earlier this month.

In the Group A the team of Luna Rossa was not able to get into the top 6, who are competing saturday for a spot in the semifinals (4 skippers will proceed to this phase). Paolo Cian (Mascalzone Latino) and Karol Jablonski (POL) led their crews into the quarterfinals.

The Pedrini Cup will be held on the Garda Lake (Italy) from the 13th to the 17th June 2001. nine out of the twelve invited skippers will be representing six different America's Cup syndicates during this match racing competition.

Fresh from finishing first in Adriatic's BluRimini Cup last week, is australian James Spithill, who now sails for OneWorld Challenge and winner of the last Pedrini Cup.

Amongst Spithill, Philippe Presti and Sebastien Destremau will be competing for the French America's Cup Challenge "Le Defi", Francesco de Angelis for Prada, Kelvin Harrap for OneWorld Challenge, Nicola Celon and Paolo Cian for the Mascalzone Latino Challenge, Morten Henriksen for Illbruck Challenge and Peter Holmberg for Oracle Racing Team.

Sebastien Destremau starts his European sailing program with the Pedrini Cup event. The team includes Gilles Favennec, Gilles Andre and Timmy Krogger however with a total crew weight of 360kg and an event limit of only 350kg the team are on a strict diet of salad, vegetable, fruit and soup!!
